The Tel Aviv University (TAU) Computing Division has been running, for the past few years, an academic course video recording project. The main objective of this project is to create a web based “face to face like” learning environment to support the study of frontal academic courses. By using this environment, students can extend their learning hours around the clock while they are at home (learning anytime, anywhere). Students with learning disabilities and accessibility problems can gain special benefit out of this environment. The level of content recording, as of last semester, is over 1500 video recording hours per semester. This large recording capacity is achieved by means of a “distributed content production” model and the use of recording techniques developed at the TAU Computing Division (TAU–CD).

I `ll take my lecture to go, please – What is common with coffee becomes a big challenge with lectures at the university. In any case the interest of the students is quite justified. Hence, the university of Hamburg offers a steadily growing portion of its lectures online and similar to a take-away.

The possibility to make lecture recordings in sound and picture available in the World Wide Web demonstrates a prudent addition to the methods of traditional teaching. It helps students with their individual post-processing, strengthens their media literacy and supports mobility and flexibility. In addition, the multimedia publication of a lecture is an excellent scientific resource for varied research and teaching. Carefully selected content can be published in terms of “Open Access” and thus improves everybody’s access to the extensive knowledge of the universities with lasting effect.

In my talk the project for lecture recording and distribution at the university of Hamburg so called lecture2Go will be introduced. L2Go is the name for both: the recording-system and the website. I will talk about the special challenges of our project. Its effects, aims and demands will be discussed within the scope of education and research at the university of Hamburg. The further topics of my lectures are the different user scenarios, technical and juridical issues as well as requirements in content and structure.

Taking the cost and the pain out of media production has become the holy grail of e-learning research. This talk presents a light-weight approach of creating video lectures on the fly on a Tablet PC with free or inexpensive software and uploading them onto YouTube. The experiences made during a 14-week German-language mathematics course for engineering students are reported on. It turned out that the astonishingly deep technical amenities of YouTube offer huge educational potential.

We’re happy to present the 2009 Podcast University conference and workshops schedules to you and hope that we’ve fund an interesting round-up for all visitors of our conference. The now missing talks and workshops will be announced in the next couple of weeks. All informations about fee’s and registration are available here.

Over the last few years, web lectures and podcasts have become an integral part of universities’ e-learning portfolios. They can be created by simply recording a lecture that is part of a curriculum anyway. Thus, the amount of recordings and media files to which the recordings are exported is constantly growing. More and more students as well as learners from outside the universities ask for lectures to be available online. Lecturers develop new didactic concepts and produce podcasts including additional material while students produce audio-visual content as user-generated e-learning objects.

Web 2.0 platforms and mashup websites, social networks and video Internet repositories like YouTube try to attract students to spend their time online. Apple´s iTunes U project  is also a popular place to reach learners all over the planet. For universities, it is not easy to decide whether this kind of popular websites and systems are an adequate place to include or present high-quality learning content. Platforms like Apple’s iTunes U or YouTube education are a good marketing place for universities to attract prospective students, partners for projects or for the university itself. For many universities producing open educational ressources is a challenging process and presently disputed. Besides legal grounds concerning copyright issues and further points, there are concerns on the lecturers’ side about the way their content will be used outside. It is often quite unclear which benefit can be found in open educational ressources.

This year’s Podcast University:2009 conference will offer different panels for the topics capturing in lecture rooms, web lectures and the rise of podcasting in recent years, didactic solutions for the successful application of podcasting in universities and concepts for using web 2.0 technologies for teaching and collaboration. General concepts for integrating podcasts in your field of activity are more appreciated than field reports about a single podcast experience.

Besides we will also offer different Opencastproject <-> Matterhorn “Beginners workshops” for developers and interested persons the second day that want to get involved in the Opencastproject (info: http://www.opencastproject.org).

Zwei ereignisreiche Tage Podcast University liegen nun hinter uns. Alle Teilnehmer sind auf dem Weg nach Hause und das Tagungsteam hat abgebaut und aufgeräumt. Wir haben uns gefreut, so viele Podcast Interessierte in Osnabrück begrüßen zu dürfen und waren von den Vorträgen und Workshops begeistert. Vielen Dank noch einmal an alle Mitwirkenden.

Wir hoffen das es allen gut gefallen hat und freuen uns auf Ihr Feedback zur Tagung. In den nächsten Tagen werden wir uns um die Aufgaben kümmern, die noch offen sind. Grade stellt Torsten Wißmann seinen GEOGRAFREE Projekt in einer beeindruckenden Präsentation mit Apples Keynote vor. Es gibt viele Beispielinhalte aus seinen Podcast, tolle Animationen und viele neue Denkanstöße zum Podcasting. Wir grübeln noch wie wir den Beitrag für den virtPresenter aufarbeiten können, sind aber sicher, dass wir das schaffen.

Das Tagungsbüro steht, die Technik läuft und die meisten Tagungsgäste sind angekommen. Wir freuen uns auf eine spannende Tagung. Prof. Vornberger hat grade mit seiner Keynote begonnen.

Für den gemütlichen Teil der Tagung haben wir Tische im PollyEsthers’s reserviert. Dort kann man entspannt essen und trinken und sich über das erlebte und neue Ideen austauschen. Um 19 Uhr geht es los, entweder vor dem Tagungsgebäude oder direkt vor Ort, Domhof 7c, mitten in der Osnabrücker Innenstadt.

Situation:

Das Mastermodul Mediendidaktik (LEARNLAB Mediendidaktik) an der Universität Paderborn schafft für Studierende allgemeine Grundlagen für eine intensive Auseinandersetzung mit mediendidaktischen Fragefeldern und leistet speziell einen Beitrag zur Weiterentwicklung der mediendidaktischen Kompetenz zur Analyse und Entwicklung von Lernumgebungen mit Neuen Medien insbesondere Social Media.

Insgesamt zielt das Modul Mediendidaktik auf den Erwerb mediendidaktischer Kompetenz. Den Studierenden wird in diesem Modul die Möglichkeit gegeben, als mediendidaktische Berater anhand eines realen, aktuell in der Forschung wissenschaftlich begleiteten Modellversuchs, theoretische Konzepte im Rahmen von Themenschwerpunkten, video- und textbasiert in Teams aufzubereiten und zu präsentieren. Außerdem erhalten sie die Gelegenheit, eine individuelle forschungsrelevante Problemstellung zu bearbeiten und in einem Weblog zu diskutieren. Insgesamt 15 Beraterteams à 3-4 Personen zeigen sich für jeweils einen thematischen Schwerpunkten verantwortlich, erarbeiten die zugrunde liegenden Konzepte und Theorien und bereiten diese videobasiert als Beratungskonzepte auf (LEANLAB VIDEO Podcast).

Hintergrund:

Durch den „Learning by Designing“ Ansatz wird erreicht, den Wissenserwerb von Lernenden durch die konstruktive Entwicklung von LEANLAB VIDEO Podcasts zu fördern. Nicht nur den anderen Beraterteams im LEANLAB Mediendidaktik, sondern auch allen anderen mediendidaktisch Interessierten, werden so anschaulich theoretische Konzepte mit Hilfe von hochwertigen und didaktisch anspruchsvoll gestalteten Videos präsentiert.

Mit diesem mediendidaktischen Konzept, Podcasts als Entwicklungswerkzeuge zu verwenden und damit einen „Learning by Designing“ Ansatz zu verwirklichen, der sich durch das Entwickeln eines Artefakts auszeichnet, konnten wir den Podcast-Wettbewerb für Hochschule und Wissenschaft auf der Learning World 2008 in Berlin für uns entscheiden.
Zusammenfassend können durch dieses mediendidaktische Konzept Podcasts nicht nur als Vermittlungsmedium zur Distribution von Inhalten eingesetzt werden, sondern Studierende partizipieren gemeinsam und aktiv an der Lehre und entwickeln mit dem medialen Werkzeug eigene Konzepte und Inhalte. Dadurch wird eine neue Lehr-Lernkultur verwirklicht, die dem Zeitalter 2.0 Rechnung trägt!

Haben Sie sich schon einmal an einer Videoaufzeichnung versucht, ohne Schimpfworte zu verwenden? Ist Ihnen jemals die Veröffentlichung binnen Wochenfrist gelungen? Oder haben Sie einfach keine Lust mehr, stets enttäuscht zu werden, wenn es um dieses Thema geht?
Die eLearning Service Abteilung der Leibniz Universität Hannover bricht nun damit und führt Flowcasts ein. Statt eine Vielzahl an kunstfertig ausgeführten Einzelschritten zu exerzieren, überlassen sie dem Flowcast-System den gesamten Bearbeitungsworkflow. Von der Aufzeichnung über die Formatumwandlung bis hin zur Bereitstellung als Podcast und in Stud.IP übernimmt Flowcast den gesamten Prozess. Das Endergebnis liegt schneller vor, als sie Blaubeermarmelade sagen können.
Dabei kommen nur Komponenten zum Einsatz, die bereits am Markt verfügbar sind – es handelt sich bei den Flowcasts um keine aufwändige Eigenentwicklung. Ziel ist, das Aufzeichnen so einfach zu gestalten, dass jede Lehrveranstaltung ohne Weiteres aufgezeichnet werden kann, ohne dass dafür besondere Handgriffe bekannt sein müssen.
Das System wird vor Ort live präsentiert.
